Before you begin work, be familiar with Sybase WorkSpace, including the Eclipse framework, WorkSpace basics, and development components.

Review the online help contents. Development work is categorized by component. Some work, such as database development, is flexible and can be categorized in multiple components. For example, you can create objects with database management tooling, and you can create database services with service development tooling.

If you plan to develop service functionality in Java, become familiar with the Java development tooling described in the Java Development User's Guide. Tips for using Java in Sybase WorkSpace are in the topic "Managing Java Projects and Java Builder Settings." You will use the Java tooling if you develop Java services or transformation services that use custom Java transformation code.
