Installing Sybase Developer Edition Servers

Install Sybase Developer Edition servers using the installer program.

Prerequisites

  • Shut down any Sybase products that are currently running.
  • Verify that you are logged in to the machine with administrative rights.
  • If your installation media are CDs, verify that your machine is not set to Autorun. Failure to do so may result in installation problems while spanning CDs.
  1. Insert the Sybase Developer Edition Servers installation DVD or CD or, if you are installing from a Web download, extract the archive to a temporary directory.
  2. Start the installer.
    1. Select Start > Run from the Windows Start menu.
    2. In the Run dialog box, browse to locate the desetup.exe file on your installation media drive or, if you are installing from a Web download, in the temporary directory to which you extracted the archive.
    3. Click OK.
    The installer welcome page appears.
  3. Click Next, and review the license agreement:

    • Select the geographic location for your installation.

The license agreement appears in the main section of the page. Scroll down to read the text.

    • Accept the terms of the license, and then click Next.
  4. Choose an installation directory.

If you installed Sybase WorkSpace first, install Sybase Developer Edition Servers in the same directory.

If you are installing the Sybase Developer Edition Servers first, accept the default installation directory (C:\Sybase\WorkSpace). Sybase recommends that you use the default installation directory.

Click Browse to designate another directory.

    Note:
    • Use English characters for all directory names.
    • Use single-byte characters for the installation directory path.
    • Use the underscore character instead of hyphens or spaces in the installation directory name.
    • Do not install Sybase WorkSpace in the same directory as Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.0. Specifying the same directory results in errors when deploying services.
  5. Select whether or not to reuse an existing JDK installation. This option is recommended for advanced users. Click Browse to specify a JDK directory other than the default.
Note: To guarantee compatibility with the JDK, Sybase recommends that you use the versions that install with Sybase Developer Edition Servers.
  6. Click Next. If the specified installation directory does not exist, you are prompted to confirm creation of this directory before continuing.
  7. Unselect any feature that you do not want installed, and then click Next.

Highlight the feature name in the left pane to display a feature description in the right pane.

The following servers have dependencies that are automatically selected when you select that server option. You cannot unselect a dependency.

  8. If you chose to run the Service or Web Application Development features on EAServer, select which EAServer installation you plan to use:

    • Select Install EAServer 6.0.2 Developer Edition Server to complete a fresh installation on your machine and configure EAServer to work with Sybase WorkSpace.
    • Select Use an existing EAServer 6.0.2 Developer Edition to configure an existing standalone EAServer installation to work with Sybase WorkSpace, and then browse for the directory of the existing installation.
Note: The existing EAServer must have been installed and be running with JDK 1.5.
See "Platform Support" for information on platform requirements when installing to a standalone EAServer.
Note: After completing this step, no other EAServer configuration is necessary. However, if you select the first option and later decide to use Sybase WorkSpace with a standalone installation of EAServer after the installation process is complete, you will need to manually configure EAServer. See the WorkSpace Installation Guide for instructions on manually configuring EAServer.
  9. Review the installation summary information, and click Install to install the selected servers.

A status bar and checklist record the progress of the installation.

  10. Select any of the following, and click Next:
    • Review the Release Bulletin on the Sybase Product Manuals Web site
  11. When a message appears indicating that Sybase Developer Edition Servers have been installed installed successfully, click Finish.
