Generating a Served License

Generate a served license at SPDC.

Prerequisites

Log in to the SPDC Web site.

  1. At the SPDC welcome screen, you can view all of the product families to which you have access. Select WorkSpace. A list of available Sybase WorkSpace products displays.
  2. Click the product with the appropriate edition and version. Be sure to select the product for the operating system you are using. The license agreement displays.
  3. Click I Agree. You must agree to the terms and conditions to generate a license.
Note: The license agreement only displays the first time you attempt to download a product. Once you have agreed to the license, you do not encounter the license agreement for all subsequent downloads of that product.
  4. At the product download page, click the License Keys link. The License Information page displays.
  5. Select the radio button for the license you wish to generate with the following considerations.
    • Consider the license type for the license you wish to generate. For more information about license types, see the "License types" in Chapter 3 "Getting and Using your License" of the Sybase Software Asset Management User's Guide.
    • If you are unsure what you have licensed, your company purchase order should have the product name, edition, and license type.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and click Select to Generate. The first step of the SySAM license-generation wizard asks you to choose between a served license and an unserved license.
  7. Select Served License, and click Next.
Note: Some Sybase products or specific license types do not give you a choice of license model to use and therefore do not display this page in the license-generation wizard. If this is the case, proceed with the SySAM license generation wizard to generate your license.
  8. Specify the number of machines you want to license, and click Next.
  9. Select an existing license host from the list or enter a new host. The node host ID is the media access control (MAC) or ethernet hardware address (EHA) for the machine to be licensed. You can obtain this address from your network configuration utility. For example, on a Windows machine, open a DOS window, enter ipconfig /all, and record the physical address.
  10. Enter the license host name. If you are using redundant license servers, enter a port number for this license host. Then, enter host IDs, names, and port numbers for the remaining license servers.
  11. Click Generate. The View Licenses page displays with the license content and additional information about the generated license.
  12. Click Download License File to save the generated license to your machine. If you already have a working SySAM license server, save the license file to the licenses directory of your SySAM license server installation.
Note: You must save your license files with a .lic extension for the licenses to be recognized by SySAM 2.0.

You can also print a hard copy of the license by clicking the Print Friendly button. To generate additional licenses, return to the license information page.
