Table Data Editor Preferences

The Table Data Editor preferences determine defaults for displaying data in the Table Data Editor.

Property Description
Show Warning Message When EditingTable Data Specify whether users receive a warning when their input is converted automatically to comply with column requirements (default). For example, if the column type is char(5) and the user enters abcdef, the f is truncated in the database, and a warning that input has been converted displays.
Column Format Customize the labels for a table column. Click Set Variables and select information to include in the column label. The default is to show the datatype.
Example Display a sample of the selected column format.
Show Row Number Display row number for each row (default).
Display Null Value As Enter characters to display when the value is NULL. The default is NULL.
Limit Number of Rows Retrieved Improve Table Data Editor performance, and avoid running out of memory when retrieving data from very large tables, for example, a hundred million rows (default/recommended).
Maximum Rows to Retrieve Enter maximum number of rows to retrieve. The default is 100.
Limit Size of Content Retrieved Improve Table Data Editor performance and avoid running out of memory when retrieving very wide data. Datatypes long binary, long varchar, and types based on them including text, image, and XML, can be 50MB or more.
Unselect to allow editing of data for columns of all types and widths.
Note: Editing columns with a limited data size can cause errors when inserting, updating, or deleting.
Maximum Bytes to Retrieve Enter maximum width of data to retrieve. The default is 32767 bytes.
Pop Up the Table Data Filter Dialog Before Opening the Table Data Editor Display the Table Data Filter dialog before opening the table data in the Table Data Editor (default).
Pop Up the Preview Dialog Before Comitting Changes to Database Preview changes before saving to database server.
  • Open the Table Data Filter dialog before the Table Data Editor opens.
  • Open the Proxy Table Parameters dialog before a proxy table is mapped to a remote procedure call with parameters.
