Database Connection Properties

Change a connection profile's properties, or filter the database information you see in Enterprise Explorer.

Table 1. Common properties
Field Description
Name Enter a unique and descriptive name for the connection profile.
Description (Optional) Enter a profile description that helps you distinguish it from others.
Auto-connect at Startup (Optional) Check this box to connect automatically to the server and display its contents in Enterprise Explorer when WorkSpace starts.
Table 2. Default schema filter, stored procedure filter, or table filter
Field Description
Disable Filter checkbox Selected by default. All table schema, stored procedures, and tables display for the database. Unselect the checkbox to enter a filter expression to determine which database objects display in Enterprise Explorer.
Name Select the filtering method.
Text box Enter one or more characters used in the filter expression. This field is case sensitive. You do not need to use wildcards or meta-characters.

For example, on the Default Table Filter page, if you selected Starts With the Characters in the Name field, and entered "S" in this text box, Enterprise Explorer would only display the tables with names that begin with a capital S.

Table 3. SQL Anywhere or Sybase IQ connection properties
Field Description
Select a Driver from the Drop-Down Select the appropriate version from the drop-down list. The other fields populate with system defaults.
Host Enter the host name.
Database Name
  • If exposing a single database, enter the database name.
  • If exposing multiple databases, leave blank.
Port Number Enter the port number.
User Name Enter the name of the authorized user.
Password Enter the password for the database server login, if required.
Save Password Save the password for this connection profile. Passwords persist for the current WorkSpace session. If you do not save your password and exit WorkSpace, you have to enter it when trying to connect to the database server via the connection profile for the new WorkSpace session.
Note: Whether you want to save your password depends on your organization's security policy. Passwords are saved into the ServerProfiles.dat file with minimal encryption.
Table 4. Sybase ASE connection properties
Field Description
Select a Driver from the Drop-Down
  • Select Sybase ASE for a nontransactional database service.
  • Select Sybase ASE XA for a transactional database service.

The other fields populate with system defaults.

Discovered Servers Select an ASE server on the network that the Sybase Unified Agent engine controls.Select Refresh to update the list. Click [...] to filter the list of discovered servers.
Host Enter the host name.
Port Number Enter the port number.
Database Name Enter the database name.
User Name Enter the name of the authorized user.
Password Enter the password for the database server login, if required.
Save Password Save the password for this connection profile. Passwords persist for the current WorkSpace session. If you do not save your password and exit WorkSpace, you have to enter it when trying to connect to the database server via the connection profile for the new WorkSpace session.

Connect and Update Version Information Connect to the database and get the current database server and JDBC versions.
