Creating a Category

You can create a category in the data catalog using Enterprise Explorer.

Prerequisites 

Before you start this procedure, Sybase WorkSpace must be connected to a grid domain controller (GDC).

Follow these steps to create a new category:

  1. Display categories in Enterprise Explorer by expanding the Categories folder under the GDC for the appropriate domain. Within Categories is ViewLibrary, and within ViewLibrary are subcategories where Data Federation places database connectors, database operations, virtual database operations, SQL views, and data services.
  2. Select the category in which you want your new category to appear—that is, the parent category. In a data catalog where no categories have been added yet, there are only two possibilities: Categories (the root of the category hierarchy) and ViewLibrary.
  3. Right-click the parent category and select Add Category. The Add Category dialog appears.
  4. In the Name field, enter a name for the new category.
  5. (Optional) In the Description field, enter a description of the category. WorkSpace displays the description as a tooltip whenever a user mouses over your category’s name in Enterprise Explorer.
  6. Click OK to create the category. WorkSpace reports the success or failure of the category creation.
  7. Click OK to dismiss the notification. The new category appears in Enterprise Explorer.
