Starting and Stopping Sybase Unwired Platform Services Manually

Manually start and stop Sybase Unwired Platform services for debugging and troubleshooting purposes.

All services start when Windows starts. You might want to use Windows Services manager to:
  • Start a service that does not start automatically
  • Restart a service that stopped unexpectedly
  • Stop a service temporarily for troubleshooting and debugging purposes
  • Stop a service if you need install third-party software (JARs, DLLs, or libraries) for each server in a cluster
  • Restart a service
  • Indicate that a service should not start automatically when Windows starts
  1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel .
  2. Select Administrative Tools and then Services.
  3. Locate the service and click Start or Stop.
Note: The table lists the services for all Sybase Unwired Platform components. You will see only the services associated with the Sybase Unwired Platform components you installed.
Table 1. Sybase Unwired Platform services
    Service name Description
Afaria Client Service Initiates connections with an Afaria Server to run sessions.
Afaria Database Database that Afaria Server uses.
Afaria Server Machine that communicates with the database.
OpenDS Starts the LDAP Server for Unwired Server (Personal Developer and Enterprise Developer editions only).
Sybase Unified Agent Provides runtime services to manage, monitor, and control distributed Sybase resources. The agent must be running for Sybase Control Center to run.
SybaseUnwiredPlatform<cluster_name>Database<install_number> Main (consolidated) database for Sybase Unwired Platform runtime.
Note: Shut down all Unwired Servers first before shutting down the consolidated database (SQL Anywhere).
SybaseUnwiredPlatform<cluster_name>RSOE<install_number> Relay server outbound enabler (RSOE) service that enables communication from the relay server to Unwired Server.

The RSOE service depends on the start up of Unwired Server and appears only after you run regRelayServer.bat.

    • If use use the Start menu, a shortcut, or startmlsrv.bat to start Unwired Server, the RSOE service starts automatically.
    • If you use the Windows Services manager to start Unwired Server, the RSOE service does not start. Instead, start the RSOE service first, which automatically starts the Unwired Server service.
SybaseUnwiredPlatform<cluster_name>Watchdog<install_number> Monitoring service. Restarts Unwired Server during cluster synchronization, but only when an Unwired Server is running as a slave and the cluster has changed. The Unwired Server service is updated to add a dependency on the monitoring service.
    SybaseUnwiredPlatform<cluster_name>Server<install_number> Unwired Server service.
