Installing PowerDesigner in Administrative Mode

System administrators can install PowerDesigner on a server and have client machines run the application from this central install. The client machines do not install any files but their registry is modified in order to be able to access PowerDesigner from the specified location.

With this type of administrative mode install, there is only one instance of PowerDesigner to deploy and upgrade.

You can install any type of PowerDesigner license and specify any combination of installation options on each client machine.

• Creating the Administrative Install on the Server
  The first part of the administrative install consists in copying the PowerDesigner files to a server. You are not required to enter any product key or select any feature to install. All PowerDesigner setup files are decompressed and copied to the server, but the server registry and system files will not be affected.
• Installing Client Machines
  Once you have created the administrative install on the server, you can set up the client machines. The client install modifies the registry of the client machine in order to be able to reference the files located on the server, but does not copy any file onto the client machine. Consequently no space is required on the client machine.
• Upgrading an Administrative Install
  You can pass the administrative install command to an upgrade package downloaded from the web.
