Setting Data Profiling Constraints

PowerDesigner supports data profiling in the physical data model (PDM) and the Standard Checks and Additional Checks tabs are provided in OOM attribute and domain property sheets solely to retain this information when linking and synching between an OOM and a PDM.

The following constraints are available on the Standard Checks tab of OOM attributes and domains:

Values

Specifies the range of acceptable values. You can set a:
  • Minimum - The lowest acceptable numeric value
  • Maximum - The highest acceptable numeric value
  • Default - The value assigned in the absence of an expressly entered value.

Characteristics

These properties are for documentation purposes only, and will not be generated. You can choose a:
  • Format - A number of standard formats are available in the list. You can enter a new format directly in the field or use the tools to the right of the field to create a data format for reuse elsewhere.
  • Unit - A standard measure.
  • No space - Space characters are not allowed.
  • Cannot modify - The value cannot be updated after initialization.

Character case

Specifies the acceptable case for the data. You can choose between:
  • Mixed case [default]
  • Uppercase
  • Lowercase
  • Sentence case
  • Title case

List of values

Specifies the various values that are acceptable.

Select the Complete check box beneath the list to exclude all other values not appearing in the list.
