Basic software components for Informix

Figure 8-1 shows the basic software components required to access an Informix database using the native Informix database interfaces.

The figure shows the components of an Informix database connection. At top is the Development environment. It is connected to the Database interface D L L called P B I N 9 n 0 dot D L L, which is supplied by Sybase. The Database interface D L L is connected to the database client software supplied by IBM, which is Informix - E S Q L client software for your Windows platform. The client software can go through a network layer, if any, using any supported network protocol supplied by a network or database vendor, and it connects finally to the Informix database.
