The simplest heterogeneous replication scenario is replicating one-way from a non-ASE primary database to an Adaptive Server replicate database. The only unique requirements are a Replication Agent designed to extract transaction data from the non-ASE primary database, and the application of the Heterogeneous Datatype Support (HDS) feature of Replication Server to translate primary database native datatypes to Adaptive Server datatypes.
