Migrate

You can migrate from 32-bit to 64-bit versions on different computers or partitions.

To migrate Adaptive Server from the 32-bit to the 64-bit version, first install and configure the 64-bit operating system.

Adaptive Server 12.5.x 32-bit for Windows can run on a Windows x64 OS. The opposite, however, is not true; you cannot run Adaptive Server 64-bit software on a Windows 32-bit OS. In addition you cannot downgrade from 64-bit to 32-bit.

To migrate, you can:

Use dump and load.
Use the bcp utility.
Replace the binary.

Note: Once you have install your new Adaptive Server, the environment variables become set to the last version installed. To run the previous installation, run the SYBASE.bat file from the command prompt to set the 12.5.x environment, such as:

c:\sybase125
c:\sybase15

Migrating Data Using a Dump-and-Load Method
To perform migrations, back up and restore databases using the dump and load commands.
Using bcp to Migrate Data
If you use DDL scripts to create devices, databases, tables, rules, stored procedures, triggers, and views, you can use bcp to migrate data from a 32-bit Adaptive Server to a 64-bit Adaptive Server.
