Stopping Replication Agent and quiescing Replication Server

You must stop Replication Agent and quiesce Replication Server because Replication Server version 15.5 is available only on 64-bit platforms for all UNIX operating systems, and on 64-bit and 32-bit platforms on Linux and Windows.

Your current Replication Server may be on a 32-bit platform. Therefore, you must purge inbound queues when you upgrade Replication Server to version 15.5 and later. See “Migrating between 32-bit and 64-bit platforms” to migrate to a 64-bit platform and see the Replication Server Release Bulletin for supported 64-bit platforms.

StepsStopping Replication Agent and quiescing Replication Server

  1. On Replication Server, stop Replication Agent for all primary databases and system databases:

    suspend log transfer from all

  2. Stop RepAgent for the RSSD if you are using Adaptive Server as the RSSD:

    sp_stop_rep_agent emb

  3. If you are going to upgrade a replicate Replication Server, log in to the primary Replication Server and suspend all the routes to the replicate Replication Server:

    suspend route to replicate_Replication_Server

  4. Verify that the Replication Server queues have been drained out and Replication Server has been quiesced by executing:

    admin quiesce_check

Retry using admin quiesce_force_rsi if Replication Server is not quiesced yet.

WARNING! You may lose data if you proceed with the upgrade process and Replication Server is not quiesced.
