Upgrading Replication Server

To upgrade Replication Server from version 12.6 and later:

  1. Stop Replication Agent and quiesce Replication Server. This is because Replication Server 15.5 is available only on 64-bit platforms on most UNIX systems. Therefore, upgrading to version 15.5 involves upgrading from a 32-bit platform in most cases and requires a purge of inbound queues. See “Stopping Replication Agent and quiescing Replication Server”. See the Replication Server Release Bulletin for supported 64-bit platforms.

  2. Upgrade the RSSDs or ERSSDs so they are compatible with the new executable programs. See “Upgrading a RSSD or an ERSSD”.

  3. Retry the upgrade process at this point if it fails. See “If an upgrade fails”.

  4. Apply upgrades to your user databases, if required, to accommodate the changes due to the upgrade of Replication Server. See “Upgrading a user database in a replication system” for instructions.

  5. Restart the Replication Servers. See “Restarting Replication Server”.

  6. Decide whether to set the replication site version to the new version and whether to upgrade the route version to the new version. See “Committing a local site to a new version level”

  7. Back up the RSSD or ERSSD after the upgrade. See “Backing up the RSSD”.

  8. If you are also separately upgrading Adaptive Server in your replication system, see “Upgrading Adaptive Server in a replication system”.

WARNING! Do not modify the secondary truncation point of Replication Agent, truncate the transaction log, or increase the generation number while upgrading to version 15.5.
