Character set conversion

Replication Server performs character set conversion on data and identifiers between primary and replicate databases. However, Replication Server does not perform character set conversion between incompatible character sets. If the character sets are compatible, but one or more characters are not common to both character sets, a question mark (?) is substituted for the unrecognized characters.

A configuration parameter in the rs_config system table, dsi_charset_convert, gives you options for how Replication Server handles character set conversion. You set this parameter with the alter connection command. For more information about these options, see alter connection.

rs_get_charset system function

Each time Replication Server connects to a data server, it executes rs_get_charset, which obtains the character set used by the data server. If it is not what is expected, Replication Server prints a warning message to the error log file. For more information, see rs_get_charset.
