Logging error messages

When you configure a new Adaptive Server, the installation program automatically sets the error log location. Then, Adaptive Server writes start-up information to the local error log file each time it starts. When you install Job Scheduler, the JS Agent creates its own log file in the same directory. See the configuration documentation for your platform to learn the default location and file name of the error log.

Many error messages from Adaptive Server only go to the user’s terminal. However, fatal error messages (severity levels 19 and above), kernel error messages, and informational messages from Adaptive Server are recorded in the error log file.

Adaptive Server keeps the error log file open until you stop the server process. If you need to reduce the size of the error log by deleting old messages, stop the Adaptive Server process before you do so.

NoteOn some platforms (such as Windows NT), Adaptive Server also records error messages in the operating system event log. See the Adaptive Server installation and configuration guide for additional information about error logs.
