Creating the Sybase user account

To ensure that Sybase product files and directories are created with consistent ownership and privileges, one user, such as the Sybase system administrator— who has read, write, and execute privileges—should perform all installation and configuration tasks. For Windows, the user should have the Administrator privilege.

To create a Sybase System Administrator account, choose an existing account, or create a new account and assign a user ID, group ID, and password for it. This account is sometimes called the “sybase” user account. See your operating system documentation for instructions on creating a new user account.

If you have already installed other Sybase software, the “sybase” user will already exist. Verify that you can log in to the machine using this account.
