Administrator Logins and Role Mappings

Administrators must log into Sybase Control Center and can optionally be authenticated by the Sybase Control Center X.X service, in addition to Unwired Server. Administrators are authorized by either component, depending on the login used, and which predefined logical roles the login is mapped to. There are different logical roles used for Sybase Control Center authentication, and Unwired Server Server authentication.

If you authenticate and authorize an administrator with Sybase Control Center X.X, you are determining what actions the administrator can perform in Sybase Control Center (for example, registering Unwired Server as a resource). Whereas, authenticating and authorizing an administrator for the Unwired Server administration plugin determines what type of administrator the user is, and the scope and scale of responsibilities available: Platform administrator (mapped to the SUP Administrator role) or Domain administrator (mapped to the SUP Domain Administrator role).

If you are authenticating with Sybase Control Center X.X, you must manually edit a role mapping file. Follow Sybase-approved instructions for modifying this file, as certain Sybase Control Center roles are not to be used in the Unwired Platform administration environment. For information about how to modify the role mapping file used for Sybase Control Center administrator authorization, as well as how to enable administrator authentication to Unwired Server, see Enabling Authentication and RBAC for Administrators in the Security guide.
