Adaptive Server Error Log

Server messages are written to an error log which can provide information about various aspects of the server, such as connections, database objects, syntax, semantics, and permissions.

Each time Adaptive Server starts, it writes information to a local error log file:

$SYBASE/$SYBASE_ASE/install/server_name.log

This file:

Once a server has been started, the error log should be checked for startup behavior and non-standard messages. The error log of a running server should be setup to be automatically scanned and any non-standard messages should be e-mailed to the appropriate DBA. Flag definitions provide additional searching capabilities. You can setup flag definitions to search for different types of messages that might include keywords such as error, stack, infected, or warning. See Adaptive Server Error Messages in the Troubleshooting and Error Messages Guide for information about different types of error messages.
