Configuring BlackBerry Push Settings for Unwired Server

Create a new BlackBerry Push Service configuration that specifies the delivery method for the service users.Typically push notifications are routed to the MDS connection service as push requests.

BlackBerry push notifications alert offline users to the availability of new items awaiting retrieval on Unwired Server. Push uses an IP connection only long enough for the Send/Receive data exchange to complete. BlackBerry Push notifications overcome issues with always-on connectivity and battery life consumption over wireless networks.

  1. Obtain the MDS connection service URL.
    1. Open the BlackBerry Manager, then from the Explorer View, click BlackBerry Solution topology > BlackBerry Domain > Servers > ServerName and display Properties.
    2. Click MDS Services, and copy the MDS Connection Services Server URL.
  2. In the left navigation pane, expand the Servers folder and select a server.
  3. Select Server Configuration.
  4. In the Messaging tab, select BlackBerry Push Configuration.
  5. (Optional) Configure the BES response portioning value to fine tune the amount of HTTP traffic the BES MDS server accepts from Unwired Server.
    1. Select the unit: MB, KB or bytes.
    2. Type an integer value.
By default, this setting is configured to 100 KB in Unwired Server, to accommodate older BES servers. Newer BES servers are configured with a 1MB default. If you have a newer BES server, improve performance by setting a higher value. Experiment with different values to fine tune the correct value for your system configuration.
  6. Select an existing BlackBerry push configuration, and click Properties to view its current settings.
  7. (Optional) create a new BlackBerry push configuration.
    1. Select New, then enter the MDS service URL you recorded.
    2. Enter the Name of the configuration.
    3. Enter the URL of the MDS connection service service host. The URL is in the format: http://<DNS or IP address>:<port number>. The default port is 8080. For information about how to obtain this URL, see XX in System Administration.
Note: In a development environment, if the BlackBerry simulator and MDS simulator are on different machines, enter the URL of the MDS simulator.
    4. (Optional) Enter a User name and Password required to access the URL. Confirm the password.
    5. BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) is selected by default.
    6. (Optional) Click PAP to enable the Push Access Protocol (PAP), if you are using a Push Proxy Gateway to deliver messages.
    7. Click OK.
