Environment Setup

How you set up your environment depends on whether it is a single-node or multinode cluster, development, or production.

Task Required by
Distribute components to different hosts on the network using the installer in iterations.
  • Single-node –not applicable.
  • Shared development – Required. See Sybase Unwired Platform Install Guide > Installing Developer Editions.
  • Multinode production – Required. See Sybase Unwired Platform Install Guide > Installing the Deployment (Production) Edition.
Configure LDAP security for Sybase Control Center.
  • Single-node – Optional. OpenDS is typically sufficient.
  • Shared development – Optional. Only if your environment requires something other than OpenDS.
  • Multinode production – Required. No default LDAP directory is used with deployment licenses.

Configure Unwired Server.
  • Single-node – Optional.Defaults should be acceptable.
  • Shared development – Optional. Only if your environment requires something other than the defaults.
  • Required for the primary server. Configuration is then distributed to secondary servers.

Set up relay servers and install relay server outbound enablers as required.
  • Single-node – Not applicable.
  • Shared development – Optional.
  • Multinode production – Required.

Create and assign security configurations for application security (authentication, authorization, and so on).
  • Single-node – Optional.
  • Shared development – Recommended, to test security features.
  • Multinode production – Required.

Create data source connections.
  • Single-node – Required.
  • Shared development – Required.
  • Multinode production – Required.

Install third-party software required by some MBO packages
  • Single-node – Optional.
  • Shared development – Optional.
  • Multinode production – Optional.

Configure the Afaria provisioning environment.
  • Single-node – Optional.
  • Shared development – Optional.
  • Recommended. Afaria automates many provisioning tasks.
