Creating and Starting the Cluster

You can configure and start the cluster server after successfully installing Adaptive Server.

  1. Read Before Creating a Cluster.
  2. Set the $SYBASE environment variable, and start the Sybase Control Center remote command and control agent on each node of the cluster.
  3. Configure the cluster using Sybase Control Center, or the sybcluster utility. SAP recommends that you use either of these options to create and manage your shared-disk cluster; however, you can also manually configure and manage the cluster.

If you have numerous clusters to set up, you can save your configuration parameters to a file, and use sybcluster to import them.

  4. (Optional) Configure the auxiliary servers: XP Server, Backup Server, and Job Scheduler.

If the installation or start-up fails, see Cleaning Up After a Failed Installation.
