Chapter 1: Introduction

Integrating data from heterogeneous sources

Integration of data from various sources is a major challenge for organizations. Data sources are often heterogeneous and geographically scattered. Business decisions require information consolidation to be available at the right time and at the right place.

Consolidation of data that resides in different database systems within an organization is often difficult. In such a scenario, it is necessary for the various heterogeneous databases to work together. Each system may have different access interfaces, different datatypes, and different error handling techniques. The RSHE provides a replication-based solution that addresses these problems.
