This section describes how to compile for 64-bit Microsoft Windows, with specific instructions for working with Microsoft Visual Studio.
Tell the compiler to use the AMD64 code generation tools by running the "vcvarsall.bat" script as shown below (the following should all be on one line, even if it is not displayed as one line in this documentation format):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\vcvarsall.bat" amd64
If you have a Visual Studio project, make sure the build platform listed in the Configuration Manager is "x64". To do this, follow the instructions below:
Click on "Project" -> Properties.
Click on the "Configuration Manager" button near the top of the property page.
In the drop-down list named "Active solution configuration", select the "Debug" option.
In the "Active solution platform" drop-down list, select "x64".
a) If you don't see "x64" in the list, then choose "<New...>".
b) In the "New Solution Platform" dialog box, in the drop-down list named "Type or select the new platform", choose "x64", and in the "Copy settings from" drop-down list, select "Win32".
