Installing the Server with the Sybase Installer

Download the installer and install a Sybase Control Center server in GUI or console mode. The installer creates an SCC directory and installs the selected components into that directory.

Prerequisites Perform the preinstallation tasks.

The Sybase Control Center installer runs in GUI mode (as graphic dialogs) in both Windows and UNIX-type operating systems (Linux, Solaris, or HPUX). In UNIX operating systems, you can also run the installer in text-based console mode.

  1. Log in using an account with administrative privileges.
  2. Download the installer from http://downloads.sybase.com.
  3. If you are installing Sybase Control Center in GUI mode on a UNIX operating system, make sure the $DISPLAY environment variable is set to the machine where you want to view the installer.
  4. Launch the installer:
Operating system GUI mode Console mode
Windows Open setup.exe Not supported in Windows
UNIX Execute setup Execute setup -is:javaconsole -console
Note: If you have trouble starting the installer, make sure you have the required operating system patches for the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 6.
  5. Follow the instructions in the installer.
Note: If a Sybase product that includes the Unified Agent is already installed on this machine:
    • Windows – the installer stops the agent if it is running.
    • UNIX – the installer stops a running agent if the running agent shares the same version and uses the same directory as Sybase Control Center.
  6. On the Enable SCC screen, select the box to enable Sybase Control Center if it is not already selected. If you do not select this option, only core files are installed and you must run the installer again to enable Sybase Control Center and install all the files.
  7. On the Configure Sybase Control Center screen, make sure the HTTP and HTTPS ports specified do not conflict with any ports used by other applications and services on this machine. If you enter your own port numbers rather than accepting the defaults, make a note of them—you will need the port numbers to connect a browser to Sybase Control Center.
  8. On the Configure RMI screen, make sure the RMI port specified does not conflict with any ports used by other applications and services on this machine.
Before it closes, the installer starts Sybase Control Center.
