Upgrading a Sybase WorkSpace Version

Use the installer to upgrade from a previous version of Sybase WorkSpace.

Prerequisites

  • Identify the installation components that you want to install for the current release.
  • Obtain the necessary license.
  • Shut down all Sybase products.
  • If you are writing Java and want your project layout in the WorkSpace Navigator to appear similar to the way it did in earlier versions of WorkSpace, you must create a source folder for your source code, typically named src.
  1. Start the Sybase WorkSpace installer as described in Installing Sybase WorkSpace.
  2. In the installer welcome page, click Next.
  3. Select the geographic location for your installation of the software.
  4. Accept the terms of the license, and click Next.

The installer detects your previous installation.

  5. Specify to install the upgrade in a new location or to overwrite an existing installation. Overwrite an existing installation is required if you are upgrading from WorkSpace 2.x. New Location – this option is available only if an existing installation for WorkSpace 1.x is detected. You can have multiple Sybase WorkSpace versions, such as 1.x and 2.x installed on the same machine, but each must be in its own distinct location:
    1. Click Next, and select an installation directory.
The default directory is C:\Sybase\WorkSpace. Sybase recommends that you use the default directory. To specify a different directory, click Browse.
      Note:
      • Use English characters for all directory names.
      • Use single-byte characters for the installation directory path.
      • Use the underscore character instead of hyphens or spaces in the installation directory name.
      • Do not install Sybase WorkSpace in the same directory as Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.0. Specifying the same directory results in errors when deploying services.
    2. Select whether or not to reuse an existing Eclipse or JDK installation. This option is recommended only for advanced users.

Click Browse to specify an Eclipse directory or JDK directory other than the default.

Note: To guarantee compatibility with Eclipse and the JDK, Sybase recommends that you use the versions that installs with Sybase WorkSpace.
    3. Click Next. Overwrite Existing – select this option to install over your existing installation:

If the specified Sybase WorkSpace installation directory does not exist, you are prompted to confirm creation of this directory before continuing.

    4. Click Next.

The installer displays the path of the current installation directory.

  6. Click Next, and select a license type.

    • Trial – allows you to evaluate Sybase WorkSpace for a limited period of time. No license file is required for this license type.
    • Unserved (local) License – dedicated standalone seat license managed locally on your machine. Verify that the license file is available on your local machine before proceeding.
    • Served (remote) License – dedicated standalone seat license managed from a license server. You must know your license manager host name and license manager TCP port (if other than the default) before proceeding.
  7. Click Next, and provide any requested license information.
Selected license type Required license information
Trial No license information is required.
Unserved License Click Browse to specify the location of the unserved license on your local machine. Click Next.
Served License Enter the computer on which your license server resides. If your license server uses a port number different from the default number of 27000, enter that port number. Click Next.
  8. Select the features to install for Sybase WorkSpace, and click Next.

If you are rerunning the installer, previously installed features are indicated as installed.

Note: If you choose to install a feature for which you do not have a license, the installation defaults to a trial license for that feature. The installation defaults to a trial license when the license is invalid or cannot be found. After the trial period, these features will no longer function.
  9. Read the summary information for the features you are installing, and click Install.
  10. Select any of the following, and click Next:
    • Review the Release Bulletin on the Sybase Product Manuals Web site
    • Start Sybase WorkSpace 2.5
    • Create Sybase WorkSpace 2.5 shortcut on desktop
  11. When a message appears indicating that Sybase WorkSpace 2.5 has been installed successfully, click Finish.
Next

After performing the upgrade, manually update your user name, password, and port in the Service Container Server Connection Properties.
