Lesson 5: Adding a new dashboard and widgets

Dashboards are specific to each user. Any user can add, edit, or delete their own dashboards. In addition, any user can add, edit, or delete the widgets that exist in their dashboards. By default, when a dashboard is created, it is populated with default widgets. In this lesson, you add a dashboard to the Monitor, and then add widgets.

 Add a new dashboard

  1. Log in to the Monitor.

  2. Click Dashboards » Add New.

  3. Click A Dashboard To Monitor The Following Resource, and choose the resource.

  4. In the Dashboard Name field, type user_joe.

  5. In the Number Of Columns field, type 2.

  6. Click OK.

    A new dashboard appears, with the following widgets:

    • For SQL Anywhere   Alert List, Key Performance Metrics, Server Info, and Connections.

    • For MobiLink   Alert List, Key Performance Metrics, Server Info, and Connections.

    • For Relay Server   Alert List, and Key Performance Metrics.

The following procedure describes how to create a new metrics widget that displays graphs, instead of the default spark lines.

 Add a metrics display widget with graphs

  1. In the upper right corner of the user_joe dashboard, click Customize, and then click Add Widget.

  2. Click Metrics, and then click Next.

  3. In the What Do You Want To Name This Widget? field, type Metrics display.

  4. In the Which Resource Are You Interested In? field, click demo12 for a database server, MobiLinkServerSample for MobiLink server or the Relay Server Farm resource for Relay Server.

  5. In the What Kind Of Display Do You Want? field, click Graph.

  6. For What Metrics Do You Want To See?, click the following:

    • For SQL Anywhere   CPU Usage, Memory Metrics » Cache Size, and Queries Processed

    • For MobiLink   Synchronization Metrics

    • For Relay Server   CPU Usage

  7. Click Create.

    A widget called Metrics display appears in the dashboard.

    To maximize the size of a widget, in the widget pane, click the dropdown menu arrow, and click Maximize.

    To view details on the graph, position your cursor above specific points on the graph.

  8. Proceed to Lesson 6: Closing database connections.
