Automatic upgrade of M-Business Client

M-Business Server supports automatically upgrading M-Business Client on all device platforms, except for Symbian OS, when all of the following conditions are met:

  • Your M-Business Anywhere system administrator has set up rules for the M-Business Client auto-upgrade feature on your M-Business Server.

  • You have previously installed M-Business Client on your device.

  • You synchronize your device wirelessly, or you use a cradle and initiate synchronizations from the M-Business Client menus, or you synchronize your Win32 M-Business Client through your desktop.

  • Your mobile device and M-Business Client version match the rules that your M-Business Anywhere system administrator has specified for the auto-upgrade to occur.

You do not need to do anything special to prepare for an auto-upgrade. Whether you synchronize wirelessly or through your desktop, the auto-upgrade will be performed at the beginning of one of your routine synchronizations. The procedure to complete an auto-upgrade is slightly different, depending on how you synchronize: through a cradle or desktop, or wirelessly.

To complete a cradle or desktop auto-upgrade of your M-Business Client
  1. Synchronize as you normally do.

Win32 systems synchronize through your desktop. Devices that do not synchronize wirelessly use a cradle connected to a PC desktop.

    Caution

For M-Business Client on devices that are not Win32 platforms, auto-upgrade will only work if you initiate the synchronization from the M-Business Client menus. For example, if a synchronization is initiated from ActiveSync, either manually or automatically on device connection, the auto-upgrade will not occur.

If you normally synchronize your channel content automatically, every time you connect your device to your PC, auto-upgrade will not occur on the automatic synchronization. If you wait for that synchronization to complete, and then initiate a synchronization from the M-Business Client menus, auto-upgrade will occur in that second synchronization.

The M-Business Client installer for your device is downloaded and starts up automatically when the synchronization is complete.

    Note

If you cancel the synchronization before the download of the M-Business Client installer is complete, you cancel the download of your channel content as well as cancelling the upgrade. The auto-upgrade of your M-Business Client will start over the next time that you synchronize.

  2. Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade of your M-Business Client.

  3. When the process has completed, your M-Business Client home page displays the message below:

Upgraded Client has been installed to your device. If your current version is <xx.xx> build <xx>, sync your device again to get your contents. Otherwise, contact your administrator.

  4. Synchronize your device again to get your content.

If the M-Business Client installer for your device begins downloading again, it means that the previous auto-upgrade did not successfully complete. Continue as if you had just started, with step 1 above.

To complete a wireless auto-upgrade of your M-Business Client
  1. Synchronize your device wirelessly, as you normally do.

The updated M-Business Client files for your device are downloaded automatically.

    Note

If you cancel the synchronization before the download of the updated M-Business Client files is complete, you cancel the download of your channel content as well as cancelling the upgrade. The auto-upgrade of your M-Business Client will start over the next time that you synchronize.

  2. When the process has completed, the installer displays the Application Updater message below:

Upgraded Client has been installed to your device. If your current version is <xx.xx> build <xx>, sync your device again to get your contents. Otherwise, contact your administrator.

  3. Synchronize your device again to get your content.

If the M-Business Client installer for your device begins downloading again, it means that the previous auto-upgrade did not successfully complete. Continue as if you had just started with step 1 above.
