Chapter 4: Using isql

Introducing isql

SQL language requests can be typed directly onto a 3270-type screen. The Client Option routes SQL requests to the requested server and displays the results in a panel at your terminal. No programming is required.

From the mainframe, you can use isql to access Adaptive Servers, Open Servers, or host-based databases through the Server Option. The server is specified in the login panel.

This chapter includes panel samples and describes the entry choices. For details on the keyboard commands on these panels, see “Keyboard definitions for isql keys”.
