Change in versioning of SDK components

Starting with version 12.0, the full SDK (Software Developer Kit) product has been shipped as one of the components of Adaptive Server. In addition, it is shipped as its own point product.

With 12.5.1, the SDK point product will be shipped approximately two months after the Adaptive Server 12.5.1 release. To differentiate between the two SDK releases (one as a point product and the other as an Adaptive Server component), the SDK component files have the words “ASE Edition” embedded in their version strings. For example, 'bcp -v' currently displays:

Sybase CTBCP Utility/12.5.1 ASE Edition/P-EBF-...

Once the SDK point product is released, you may need to install this product over your current installation to use new fixes to the SDK products (isql, bcp, CT-Library, ESQL/C & ESQL/COBOL, and so on). After the “ASE Edition” of SDK has been overlaid with the point product release, the version number will revert to the previously existing standard. For example 'bcp -v' will display:

Sybase CTBCP Utility/12.5.1/P-EBF11382/DRV.12.5.1/SPARC/Solaris 2.8/BUILD1251-...

As Adaptive Server ESDs typically do not contain files from the SDK component, this regular versioning scheme will now resume. The SDK component is a fully functioning product and has the same features and functionality as the point product.
