Troubleshooting SySAM issues

If you experience issues with your SySAM license, read this section to find information that might help you troubleshoot licensing issues, or help you collect information that Technical Support can use to diagnose licensing issues. You can find more information about SySAM licensing on the SySAM Web site and in the SySAM documentation on the Product Manuals Web site.

Logging SySAM information

For DataWindow .NET, the log file is named dn25_sysam.log and is saved in the DataWindow .NET 2.5 directory.

For DataWindow Designer, the log file is named dw25_sysam.log and is saved in the DataWindow Designer 2.5 directory.

The file contains status information from the development environment, the details of the current license, and, if you set the SySAMTrace value in DW.INI, information from the SySAM API. Technical Support might ask you to set these values if you experience license problems.

Additional SySAM files

The dn25_sysam.properties and dw25.lic files for DataWindow .NET are installed in the DataWindow .NET 2.5 directory. The dw25_sysam.properties and dw25.lic files for DataWindow Designer are installed in the DataWindow Designer 2.5 directory. These files contain information that might be useful to Technical Support. Do not edit these files unless directed to do so by Technical Support.

Updating a license

If your license has expired or is invalid and you have obtained a new license, you can update the license in Visual Studio. In the DataWindow Designer plug-in, select Update DataWindow License from the Tools menu and complete the wizard. In an application, right-click a Sybase DataWindow .NET control or object in the Design view and select Update DataWindow License from the pop-up menu.

Served license issue

If you enter an unqualified server name, such as “myserver”, as the license server name, it might not be found. Try a fully-resolved name, such as “myserver.mydomain.com.”
